African meat pies

300 gr mlevene junetine
1 luk srednje velicine
par cenova belog luka
3 sargarepe srednje velicine
2 krompira srednje velicine
Maggi kocka za supu
Kasicica majcine dusice (thyme)
Kasicica karija
2 kasike brasna
So/biber
200 ml hladne vode (manje ili vise)
Za testo
500 grama mekog brasna
250 grama putera / margarina
1 kasica praska za pecivo
3/4 kasicice soli
Priprema
U svaki krug staviti kasicicu fila i preklopiti.
Slagati pitice u malo pomascen pleh prekriven pek papirom . Premazati svaku piticu umucenim jajetom .
Peci na 200 stepeni oko pola sata. Spremne su kad pocnu da rumene.
African meat pies
This was a part of my daughter's school project on Africa. They had an African market place set up at school and they were selling food an other stuff. These pies were a huge hit among students and they were sold out fast once the rumor spread about them. I got an idea to make them from my African friend and I have to thank her for this tasty addition to our menu.
2 onion
few garlic cloves
3 medium sized carrots
2 medium sized potatoes
vegetable oil
Maggi cube
1 tsp of thyme
1 tsp of curry powder
2 tbs of flour - to make a binder
200 ml cool water
Salt/Pepper
For the Dough
500 gr plain flour
250 gr butter / margarine
1 tsp baking powder
3/4 tsp salt
about 75 ml cool water
1 whisked egg for brushing
Preparation
Fry onion in vegetable oil, add minced beef and fry until meat starts browning. Add spices and vegetables, crumble Maggi cube and add some water so that everything can cook without burning.
Cook until vegetables are done.
To prepare the dough , mix flour with baking powder and salt. Rub butter in the flour to make crumbs and then start adding water until you get a smooth dough. Th dough should be soft but compact. Let it rest for until the meat filling is cool.
Heat the oven at 350 F
When the meat filling has cooled down, divide the dough in two portions and roll it out not to thick , not too thin. Cut circles with a glass. Put a tsp of filling in each circle, fold and press the egdes with a fork to get the authentic pie shape.
Lay pies on an oiled baking sheet , brush with whisked egg and bake in the oven for about 30 minutes or until pies just start to brown.
